چکیده

Aims. We study stability of differentially rotating non-magnetic proto-neutron stars. Methods. Linear stability properties are considered taking into account neutrino transport. Results. If neutrino transport is efficient, the star can be subject to a diffusive instability that can occur even in the convectively stable region. The instability arises on the time-scale comparable to the time-scale of thermal diffusion. Conclusions. Hydrodynamic motions driven by the instability can lead to anisotropy in the neutrino flux since the instability is suppressed near the equator and rotation axis.

Convective instability in proto–neutron stars

The linear hydrodynamic stability of proto–neutron stars (PNSs) is considered taking into account dissipative processes such as neutrino transport and viscosity. We obtain the general instability criteria which differ essentially from the well-known Ledoux criterion used in previous studies. We apply the criteria to evolutive models of PNSs that, in general, can be subject to the various known ...

Nonaxisymmetric Magnetorotational Instability in Proto-Neutron Stars

We investigate the stability of differentially rotating proto-neutron stars (PNSs) with a toroidal magnetic field. Stability criteria for nonaxisymmetric MHD instabilities are derived using a local linear analysis. PNSs are expected to have much stronger radial shear in the rotation velocity compared to normal stars. We find that nonaxisymmetric magnetorotational instability (NMRI) with a large...

On Rapidly Rotating Magnetic Core-Collapse Supernovae

We have analyzed the magnetic effects that may occur in rapidly rotating core collapse supernovae. We consider effects from both magnetic turbulence and the formation of magnetic bubbles. For magnetic turbulence we have made a perturbative analysis for our spherically symmetric core-collapse supernova model that incorporates the build up of magnetic field energy in the matter accreting onto the...
